After almost a month at home, the time had finally come for our journey to New Zealand. Flying with Emirates we had two flights to catch, one from Heathrow to Dubai (6.5hrs) and the second from Dubai to Auckland (16hrs 10mins). We were provided a 30kg baggage allowance which could be split between up to 10 bags, of which I used two. Our hand luggage allowance was 7kg and I took my CTC flight bag for that. Stuffing all of my clothes in to such a small allowance was quite difficult, especially when you had CTC flying stuff to take with you too, such as your logbook and kneeboard which contributed to the weight somewhat.
I was quite impressed with Emirates and the A380 having not flown either before. Emirates' A380 config allowed for plenty of legroom, although the sleep I received on the flight was far from ample due to a crying baby a row behind me! Nevertheless, after almost 24 hours flight time we landed in Auckland to which we had a 90 minute bus journey to our accommodation at CTC Aviation's Clearways facility in Hamilton.
Jetlag is well and truly set in and it will take me a few days to get rid of it I'm sure. I have to say the accommodation here is quite nice and I'll write up / vlog about it in more detail in the days / weeks to come. I have a feeling things are going to get quite busy in the short term as we have to do our UK to NZ Air Law conversion course.
Enjoy the vlog!
George.
